How to Find Your People in New York
The “third space” the place besides work and home that people meet, mingle and connect has been changing rapidly in New York City. It used to be coffee shops and bars, now it’s private members club, the Blade lounge and intimate pop-up dinners.
These new spaces are connect by a shared interest or value-set. Private members clubs like Soho House, San Vincente Bungalows and Ned cater to a particular slice of New Yorkers while your fellow Blade riders tend to be the midtown finance set or influencers, headed out to the Hamptons for some sun and surf.
Finding your people in New York can feel intimidating.
Here are the three things I’ve learned from all my years in NYC. I haven’t cracked the code but this is a great place to start.
Don’t try to fit in anywhere. Be you and gravitate towards what you like. If there’s one thing this city doesn’t thrive on, is inauthenticity.
Be open minded. Billionaires and handymen alike ride the subway. The best parties are curated to not be so homogenous. Try everything once. You might find your people.
Tap into the daily activities New Yorkers. Boutique fitness. Coffee shop rituals. Dog walks. Bar regulars. Consistency is a great way to build community.
